Learning to perform music is so much more than just playing or singing notes. All my students learn music reading, theory and history as intrinsic components of their individual musical adventure in a caring, encouraging and above all, fun environment. I also help the student develop skills for minimizing performance anxiety and maximizing their overall performance success. |

This is my all-time favorite music subject to teach. Learn the fundamentals of writing music from simple songs to more elaborate compositions depending on your needs. The lessons include ear-training and sight-reading exercises, computer-assisted notation, orchestration and arranging. I cover as many genres as the student wants to learn, from classical to Techno. I especially like to include historical and cultural contexts, and my students enjoy it too. You will also learn how to create demo CDs and MP3 recordings of your music. |

Famed neuroscientist and author Oliver Sacks (Awakenings, Musicophilia) and others suggest that virtually anyone can be taught to sing. I agree. I begin with the basics of vocal production -- proper breathing, vowel resonance, pitch-placement and basic reading and rhythm skills. I include theory and history and the fundamentals of singing in Italian. Operatic and Broadway musical role coaching is also provided for the advanced performer. |

The flute family of woodwinds are unique in that their sound is not generated by the vibration of a reed or players’ lips, but the aiming of a stream of air over a beveled edge called the “fipple.” I focus on methods for learning the correct mouth shape (embouchure — pronounced “AWM-boo-shure”), breath control, and articulation (the ways in which tones start and stop) techniques to produce the most consistent and clearest notes. |

One of the most versatile musical instruments ever invented, the piano is also the most popular instrument for teaching and learning music performance in the U.S. I call upon a number of proven methods for building flexibility, strength, speed, and agility in the hands, wrists and fingers along with the confidence needed to make sensitive choices in interpretation and musicianship. |
